Free Rose

Free Rose was bred in Kentucky by Nathan McCauley.  In Spring of 2016, he set a new course record at Keeneland in his first start on turf and blew up the tote at odds of over 50-1.  A month later, a deal was struck between McCauley & his friends at Abbondanza Racing, and Free Rose headed West for a Summer Campaign.

What a campaign it was!  He first won the G3 $150,000 La Jolla Handicap at 30-1 and proved the victory was no fluke when taking the G2 $250,000 Del Mar Derby (at 11-1) a month later.  Free Rose was named 3-year-old of the meet at Del Mar for his accomplishments.  he ended the year with a close 2nd place finish in the G2 $200,000 Twilight Derby on the Breeders' Cup undercard and a troubled-trip 5th at Del Mar in the G1 $300,000 Hollywood Derby.  After a 2016 campaign that included nine starts and $321,000 in earnings, Free Rose is spending a couple months vacationing at a farm in Southern California.  The 2017 Breeders' Cup at Del Mar will be the goal next year.

Next Start:  Spring 2017
